Small orders, such as a carton of ceramic fiber blanket or paper, a pail of mortar, etc., are typically shipped by UPS. Note: Insulating Firebrick (IFB) and silicon carbide kiln shelves cannot be shipped UPS. Larger orders are shipped on a large commercial carrier truck.
For full truckload (TL) quantities, typically 35,000 to 45,000 pounds, a large commercial covered van or flatbed trailer is used. The customer must have a forklift to unload this type of truck as the trucker does not have lift-gate equipment or any other means of unloading the truck.
For less than full truckload quantities (LTL) we use different carriers depending on the total weight of the shipment and destination. Because Larkin ships such a large volume of freight, we receive very good rates from our carriers, which allows us to be competitive throughout North America, South America and the Caribbean as well as other points throughout the world.
On LTL shipments, a lift-gate drop can be arranged so you don’t have to have a forklift. Most carriers charge a residential delivery fee and a lift-gate fee.
NOTE: Commercial carriers operate very large trucks. In some cases, they may be too large for a residential delivery to your location.
Shipping rates are based on the total weight of the shipment plus the distance traveled. The more weight you ship, the less per pound the freight costs.
LTL shipments are delivered Monday through Friday only, except in outlying areas which maybe only once or twice a week. No weekend delivery is available.
